Kim Ou-joon, an outspoken liberal broadcaster, said Monday he will stop hosting a controversial program on the Seoul city government-affiliated Traffic Broadcasting System (TBS) by the end of this year.

거침없이 말하는 진보주의 방송인 김어준은 그가 올해를 마지막으로 TBS(서울시 산하의 교통 방송 시스템)에 논란이 많은 프로그램을 그만둘 것이라고 월요일에 말했다.

Kim, who often stirs up controversy due to his support of liberal politicians and political parties during radio and online programs, made the remarks at the beginning of the TBS program named "Kim Ou-joon's News Factory."

라디오와 온라인 프로그램을 진행하느 동안 진보적인 정치인들과 진보진영을 지지해 종종 논란을 일으킨 김씨는 TBS 프로그램 김어준의 뉴스 공장을 시작할 때 이렇게 말 했다.

 

"I've been hosting this program for six years and 2 1/2 months, or 324 weeks. I'll only add three more weeks. I'll quit at the end of this year," Kim said, adding he will talk about the details later.

"저는 6년 동안, 2년 5개월, 324주 동안 이 프로그램을 진행해왔습니다. 앞으로 3주 동안만 더 할 것입니다. 올해 말에는 그만둘 것입니다."라고 김씨는 말했고 자세한 것은 나중에 말하겠다고 했다.

Kim began hosting the current affairs radio show in September 2016. The show has ranked first among TBS programs in terms of audience ratings but has often been embroiled in a political bias controversy.

2016년 11월에 김씨는 이 프로그램의 진행을 시작했다. 이 쇼는 시청자 투표에서 TBS 프로그램중 상위권에 올랐으나 종종 정치 편향 논쟁에 휘말려왔다.

 

Political watchers say Kim's decision may have been affected by the Seoul city government's plan to cut off its budget support to TBS starting in 2024. The Seoul Metropolitan Council passed an ordinance on the TBS-related budget cut last month. (Yonhap)
