The government will decide whether to lift the indoor mask mandate by the end of this month, Interior Minister Lee Sang-min said Wednesday.

정부는 실내 마스크 의무화를 이달말까지  해제지 여부를 결정할 것이라고 행안부 장관 이상민은 수요일에 말했다.

The mandate is the last remaining COVID-19 restriction Korea has kept in place following the scrapping of all other distancing rules.

마스크 의무화는 다른 모든 거리두기 규칙이 폐지된 이후 한국이 유지해온 마지막 남은 코로나-19 규제이다.

 

"(The government) will come up with the final plan by the end of this month after discussing ways to adjust (indoor) mask mandate rules," Lee said during a government virus response meeting.

"정부는 실내 마스크 의무 규칙을 조정할 방안을 논의한 뒤 이달말까지 마지막 계획이 나올 것이다"라고 이상민 장관은 정부 바이러스 대책(대응) 미팅(회의)에서 말했다.

 

The move comes as a series of local governments, including the central city of Daejeon and South Chungcheong Province, announced their plans to drop the facial covering mandate.

그런 움직임은 대전과 충남을 포함여 여러 지방정부들이 얼굴 가리기 의무를 폐지하는 계획을 연쇄적으로 발표하면서 나왔다.

Lee highlighted the importance of maintaining a single quarantine system, citing lingering concerns over a surge in winter.
